Animal Collective
Animal Collective - 'Painting With'

Animal Collective “Painting With”

Listening to “Painting With,” the 10th album by Animal Collective, is like stepping into a melodic funhouse with harmonies reflecting off of one another. The band recorded this album where The Beach Boys recorded “Pet Sounds” – East West studios in Los Angeles. Enhancing on the futuristic pop melodies that have made me a fan, “Painting With,” is tighter and more ambitious in the most fantastical of ways. The band even released a fingerpainting app to compliment the album. Check it out on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon.

Wolfmother - 'Victorious'

Wolfmother “Victorious”

Loud, heavy and flamboyant, “Victorious,” is the perfect title for the fourth album by the Australian rock band Wolfmother. The follow up to 2014’s “New Crown” puts bandleader Andrew Stockadle in charge of an immense, electrifying sound that is best suited for raucous crowds or very loud speakers. Get “Victorious” on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

BJ The Chicago Kid - 'In My Mind'

BJ the Chicago Kid “In My Mind”

“In My Mind,” the first major music label debut by BJ the Chicago Kid is solid and shows a progression in maturity for the artist since his first full-length album, “Pineapple Now-Later” in 2012.  With Chance the Rapper on “Church,” he sings, “She say she wanna drink, have sex, and do drugs tonight/ But I got church in the morning.” Blending R&B with rap, BJ the Chicago Kid pours his emotions into every lyric on this album. Get “In My Mind” from iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
Mavis Staples - 'Livin' On A High Note'

Mavis Staples “Livin’ On A High Note”

Alright, Mavis Staples, you spoke and The High Note listened. We are always “Livin’ On A High Note.” The legendary soul singer recorded her 14th solo album with the help of producer M. Ward and with songs written by Ward, Nick Cave, tUnE-yArDs and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. Ward captured every golden note that made The Staple Singers so popular. Get “Livin’ On A High Note” from iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

Various Artists - 'Star Wars Headspace'Various Artists  “Star Wars Headspace

In case you haven’t gotten enough of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Rick Rubin has dropped a stellar soundtrack for the Mos Eisley Cantina of 2016. “Star Wars Headspace,” is an electronic album featuring tracks by Flying Lotus, Rubin and “Jabba Flow”, a song written by director J. J. Abrams and Lin-Manuel Miranda for the recent film. Enjoy some cameo sound effects and audio clips from the film series on “Star Wars Headspace,” available at iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
Ra Ra Riot - 'Need Your Light'

Ra Ra Riot “Need Your Light”

Ra Ra Riot is focusing less on the strings and more on electronic things on the band’s fourth album, “Need Your Light.” Hailing from Syracuse, NY, Ra Ra Riot collaborated with Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend to produce the first single, “Water.” In spite of the change in direction from orchestral sounds to synthesizer-laden melodies the band is consistent in its latest pop product. Get “Need Your Light,” on iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
