James Blake — On “Trying Times,” his first independent release, Blake synthesizes the full arc of his career — minimalist electronics, soul songwriting, atmospheric balladry — into what may be his most cohesive album yet.
Kim Gordon — The Sonic Youth co-founder returns with “Play Me,” training her sardonic wit on AI, technocracy, and the billionaire class over motorik rhythms and trap-inflected noise courtesy of producer Justin Raisen.
Jack Harlow — Recorded at New York City’s Electric Lady Studios, “Monica” finds Harlow ditching rap entirely for moody, D’Angelo-channeling soul grooves devoted to love and its complications.
Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds — The artist formerly known as Sturgill Simpson delivers “Mutiny After Midnight,” a country-funk dance record balancing the dark state of the world against the bright state of love, available on physical formats only.
Alexis Taylor — The Hot Chip frontman’s seventh solo album, “Paris in the Spring,” blends leftfield pop, country, and disco-house alongside collaborators including Air’s Nicolas Godin and Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside.
