New Music Friday on The High Note with Shaun Smith

Welcome to New Music Friday! This first weekend of June brings an absolutely stacked lineup of releases across every genre imaginable. Whether you’re in the mood for indie rock legends, metalcore heavyweights, or experimental hip-hop, today’s got something special waiting for you.

Death Cab for Cutie returns with “I Built You a Tower,” a poignant collection that finds Ben Gibbard and company crafting their most emotionally resonant work in years. Evanescence emerges from the darkness with “Sanctuary,” an album that showcases Amy Lee’s soaring vocals against a backdrop of orchestral metal grandeur. Jalen Ngonda delivers pure soul magic on “Doctrine of Love,” channeling classic R&B vibes with a contemporary edge that feels both timeless and urgent. Modest Mouse gets wonderfully weird on “An Eraser and a Maze,” proving that Isaac Brock’s creative restlessness remains as vital as ever. Vince Staples closes out the highlights with “Cry Baby,” a sharp and introspective project that continues his evolution as one of hip-hop’s most distinctive voices.

As always, the entire list of new albums released today, Friday, June 5, 2026 is below in no particular order. My most anticipated albums are in bold.
