New Music Friday on The High Note

June is here and New Music Friday is getting hot! Restrictions are easing, concerts are coming around and music is officially back! It never left, but you heard it here first folks, music is back!

This week, I’m keeping the rock vibes going, as it has been for a few weeks. At the top of my list is ZZ Top’s Billy F. Gibbons’ album “Hardware.” In the punk-rock realm, I always loved Liz Phair, after seeing her at the Field Day Festival in 2003 and her album “Soberish” is going on the playlist. Also, never sleep on a Japanese Breakfast project and Michelle Zauner has her latest “Jubilee.”

In the indie electronic world, San Holo, is out with “bb u ok?” and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam has his latest “Changephobia,” which is sure to be an award winner. For hip-hop fans, check out Smoke DZA’s “The Hustler’s Catalog 2.” For the folkers, don’t miss Chris Thile’s “Laysongs” and I love the Jazz is Dead series so much, so please listen to João Donato, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge on “Joao Donato JID007.”

As always, the full list of albums released today Friday, June 4, 2021 is below in no particular order. My most anticipated albums are in bold. Let me know what you’re listening to in the comments below and on social media.
