New Music Friday on The High Note

It’s the last New Music Friday of January and it sure feels like it. Temperatures aren’t going to get above freezing today in Atlantic City and the list of new album releases is getting longer.

First, I’ll start where I normally don’t – yesterday. Both The Alchemist and Taylor Swift both released new projects Jan. 28 – the latter is another chapter in the “Folklore” series and the former is on quite a roll with “Carry the Fire.”

Now that we’re all caught up, there are so many new releases today that it’s hard to pick my favorites. So far I’m loving the new album by the queen of the Queen City, Ani DiFranco. I also am looking forward to the debut by singer Arlo Parks and the latest from Celeste. I also really like what I heard from Nahawa Doumbia.

Philadelphia folker Langhorne Slim has a new album and THe Besnard Lakes are also back with a new collection of songs. Weezer is also back with one of two new albums this year that is sure to please fans and Madlib and Four Tet have created an incredible collaboration with “Sound Ancestors.”

For the funky, jazz and orchestral lovers out there, don’t sleep on the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, bassist William Parker’s voluminous collection and the finger stylings of Yasmin Williams on “Urban Driftwood.”

As always, don’t be afraid to let me know what I missed and what you like in the comments below and on social media. If you’re new to this, my most anticipated albums are below in bold in addition to everything else.
