“He knows my name, but my name is not my name. And you… to them you’re only ‘The Greek.'”
“And, of course, I’m not even Greek.”
We end this first week of February with Super Sunday so The High Note is taking a brief break from normal music reviews to bring in the stalwart of speculation – Shauny the Greek, who apparently has been watching “The Wire” during the pandemic – to pick the best musical props bets for Super Bowl LV.
While most will be watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Feb. 7 and some will be paying close attention to the millions of dollars being thrown at Super Bowl commercials, The High Note audience will dependably be looking forward to the Halftime Show as well as every musical moment up and down the gridiron.
First, the “Star-Spangled Banner” will be sung by both Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church in a duet before kickoff at 6:30 p.m. H.E.R. will perform “America the Beautiful,” but Bovada isn’t taking odds on that. The halftime show will feature The Weeknd at around 8:30 p.m.
How Long Will It Take Jazmine Sullivan Or Eric Church To Sing The US National Anthem? From the moment they sing the first word until they complete saying “brave” for the first time.
Over 1 Minute 59 Seconds EVEN
Under 1 Minute 59 Seconds -140
Shauny the Greek is going with the over on this one and taking the even money to start off his betting streak on the right foot. When are duets ever really shorter than solo songs?
Will Eric Church Forget Or Omit A Word From The National Anthem?
Will Jazmine Sullivan Forget Or Omit A Word From The National Anthem?
Just like H.W. raising taxes – Not gonna do it.
Will Jazmine Sullivan Or Eric Church Forget Or Omit A Word From The National Anthem?
Ah, I do love a good double chance bet when its comes to soccer but not for this one. Bet the no.
Will Any Scoring Drive Take Less Time Than It Takes Jazmine Sullivan And Eric Church To Sing The National Anthem?
So remember we’re going with over 2 minutes on the National Anthem and according to our friends over at FiveThirtyEight “the Chiefs were tied for the third-longest average time of possession per drive,” so we’re taking the Yes.
How Many Songs Will Be Played During The Halftime Show?
Over 8 -200
Under 8 +150
Am I taking the over just because I want The Weeknd to perform more than eight songs? That’s a lot of songs, however, I think he will make it happen.
Amount of The Weeknd Wardrobe Changes
Over 0.5 -380
Under 0.5 +240
Given the whole “After Hours” aesthetic that The Weeknd has created, I think this is going to be a full-on theatrical performance, but in the style of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” I think he’s going to have one outfit that continues to maybe get disheveled throughout the performance. Does that count as a wardrobe change? Safe money is the over, but Shauny the Greek is a gambler so we’re going with the under.
Will Ariana Grande Be On Stage During The Halftime Show?
Will Bella Hadid Be Shown During The Halftime Show?
Will Doja Cat Be On Stage During The Halftime Show?
This would fun but I don’t think so.
Will Drake Be On Stage During The Halftime Show?
I’ve been informed that Drake is banned from The High Note until further notice due to his antics during the Sixers and Raptors playoff series. No.
Will Kenny G Be On Stage During The Halftime Show?
For some reason I like this one – let’s go with it.
Will The Weeknd Mention Donald Trump?
No way, he’s Canadian.
Will A Football Be Used As A Prop?
Another intriguing idea but I don’t think so. If anything I predict that something in the performance will have to do with getting to the game or gambling.
Will The Weeknd Mention Canada?
Will The Weeknd Mention Joe Biden?
No way. Again, he’s Canadian.
Will There Be A Wardrobe Malfunction? All Performers Count towards Wager. Federal Communications Commission must issue a fine for Yes To be Graded the winner.
The stipulation that the FCC must issue a fine is wonderful but I think it is more likely that someone drops an F-bomb than drops their drawers on national television in 2021. This is a staged performance, after all. No.
Good luck, folks. Hit me up on Twitter #ShaunyTheGreek with your picks before and during the game.
