Episode 47 – John Flynn

John Flynn performs at the 62nd annual Philadelphia Folk Festival (Shaun R. Smith/The High Note).

Delaware County’s own John Flynn joins The High Note podcast to talk about his remarkable journey as a singer-songwriter and activist.

We dig into his decades-long relationship with the Philadelphia Folk Festival, his transformative work with incarcerated individuals through New Beginnings – Next Step, and his new album Kindred Spirits, available now.

John also shares memories of his friendship with the late, great Kris Kristofferson—a kindred spirit in every sense. It’s a conversation about music, meaning, and the communities we build along the way.

You can catch John live this fall and winter. On Nov. 23, he’ll be in Devon, PA for a benefit concert supporting disaster relief for victims of this past summer’s devastating floods in Kerrville, Texas.

On Thursday, Dec. 4, he’s playing the storied Lansdowne Folk Club in his native Delco—get details at folkclub.org/concert-schedule.

And finally, on Dec. 18, John continues his annual tradition (30 years now!) with a fundraiser for Camp Dreamcatcher, a therapeutic summer camp for kids dealing with AIDS/HIV, at The Kennett Flash – https://kennettflash.org/events.

A quick note: You may notice some minor audio hiccups in this episode—it was a stormy day on the East Coast. Thanks for bearing with us!
